Good Times Africa, in partnership with Red Bull Music, are pleased to announce our special edition 10th Anniversary Blankets & Wine festival to be held in Nairobi on 4th November at the Ngong Race course. Having grown with the Kenyan live music and overall creative scene, this is a real opportunity to commemorate 10 years of building, learning and serving. It is also a chance to celebrate the remarkable artists who have been in the game for 10+ years, recognizing the magnitude of this staying power in a tough industry.
The festival was borne of a need for founder Muthoni Ndonga (artist name Muthoni Drummer Queen) to promote her own music, as well as that of her peers, the majority of whom were self-managed musicians deemed ‘too alternative’ by local radio stations. Using all her savings, the platform was designed to present a co-created experience between curious audiences and willing artists. Blankets & Wine was born on November 3rd 2008 at Taiyana Stables, Ridgeways. With consistency in the monthly shows and through word-of-mouth, it grew from strength to strength to become East Africa’s top music event and Kenya’s most photographed event.
The support and development of emerging musical talent has been an important focus throughout the festival’s history and this year will be no different in encouraging audiences to believe in emerging African artists who have talent and vision, and to see where this support and belief can take them in years to come.
